I am thrilled to announce that I have completed my Master of Science in Big Data Analytics with Distinction from the University of Derby! This journey has equipped me with a comprehensive skill set and a profound understanding of Big Data Analytics, which I am excited to bring to new challenges and opportunities.
Throughout the program, I mastered a range of concepts, paradigms, theories, and models relevant to Big Data Analytics. I gained insights into the role of Big Data in a complex, networked world and its application across various domains. My skills in data mining, visualization, statistical and mathematical modelling, and understanding their limitations in solving real-world problems have been significantly enhanced. I also developed in-depth knowledge of ethics and governance in Big Data Analytics, which was one of the modules during my master’s program.
Intellectually, I learned to analyse complex problems and critically assess current issues and developments in the field. I applied innovative and novel methods to solve Big Data problems using the latest knowledge, successfully formulating and applying appropriate data mining and visualization models for industry and research applications. This journey has also instilled in me a commitment to lifelong learning to stay at the forefront of the academic discipline.
Practically, I identified and researched key issues in Big Data Analytics, applied theories and principles to solve Big Data problems, and enabled effective data analysis and visualization. I acquired a critical understanding of tools for data manipulation and real-world data analysis.
In terms of transferable skills, I evaluated and integrated complex and sometimes conflicting information relating to advances in Big Data Analytics. I applied new knowledge in novel and cross-disciplinary situations, demonstrated independence and autonomy in learning and working, effectively communicated complex ideas, and became a reflective learner.
Additionally, my dissertation, titled “Exploring Rural-Urban Scaling Laws in the Unique Context of Western Australia,” examined the relationship between population density and key indicators such as demographic features, health conditions, and economic performance in Western Australia. The study confirmed the urban scaling hypothesis and highlighted specific demographic and economic patterns, providing valuable insights for urban planning and public health policies.
Looking forward, my future endeavours will focus on the role of Data Analytics in revolutionizing public health. Big data helps uncover previously invisible connections between factors such as social health determinants, dietary risks, and environmental changes. Public health professionals can use individual health data to predict risks and tailor preventative measures and treatment plans. Access to updated health data and available options empowers patients to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
Leveraging the skills acquired during my master’s program, I am committed to revolutionizing public health through data analytics. By identifying hidden patterns and trends, personalizing healthcare, and empowering patients, I aim to contribute to a healthier and more informed society.
I am excited to continue leveraging these skills in my professional journey, contributing to innovative solutions and advancements in the field of Big Data Analytics.
